The purpose of this piece is to introduce C3, the crotchet and the minim in time signature of two beats per bar.
Skills Analysis
The learning objective for this piece covers the position of the note C3 in the bass clef. Additionally the student has the opportunity to use and draw a crotchet and a minim.
Practice Strategy
Start to practise this piece away from the keyboard by reading the letter names and count values out loud. Following this go to the instrument and locate C3, position yourself with this key to the left, ensuring that the chair or stool is at the right height and the fingers are not flat on the keys. If you are not sure about the correct hand position sit with your knees slightly under the keys, allow your left arm to hang by your side in a relaxed position. When ready lift and place with the little finger on C3, keeping the natural curve of the hand. Tap each key required in the correct rhythm. Finally play the piece saying the count values out loud as you play.
Demonstration Video
This demonstration video is an example of how the piece sounds after the recommended period of practice. This is a minimum of four consecutive days focused practice of five to ten minutes a day.
