A piece to introduce the note C5

 

Skills Analysis

While the primary requirement of this piece is to introduce the note C5 it additionally introduces the note symbols for the crotchet and the minim. The student has the opportunity to to copy the score underneath, during my lessons a student is encouraged to use either a red pencil as red is the colour of C, or rainbow colours. Certain students would prefer to use a standard lead pencil, it is fully dependent on the style of learning preference.

 

Practice Strategy

The focus of this piece is not only the reading of the note but the correct rhythm too. This means to hold the notes down for the correct value and moving forward with a steady beat. Do not play the piece too fast so you have to pause. First read the letter names of the notes, then move onto the count value of each note, a crotchet is worth one count and a minim two counts, finally locate the right hand position by listening to the video and finding the correct C on your instrument. The first time your play say the letter names out loud. The second time say the finger numbers you are pressing down and finally say the count value of each note. When you are confident play along with the audio or the video of the piece.

This demonstration video is an example of how the piece sounds after the recommended period of practice. This is a minimum of four consecutive days focused practice of five to ten minutes a day.
