Norteño

Norteño is a genre of music which is popular in both Mexico and the United States, especially among the Mexican and Mexican-American community, and it has become popular in other Spanish-speaking countries.
The norteño repertoire covers many different styles including some based on European styles which arrived in Mexico by emperor Emperor Maximilian I, an Austrian arch duke, who reigned from 1864 to 1867. When the emperor was defeated his soldiers, marching bands and musicians fled north taking the music with them. The music features an accordion which is essential to the music today.
