Summary
I have benefitted from being able to observe in detail three very different learning styles. Learner One is primarily a visual or spatial learner who prefers using pictures, images, and spatial understanding. Learner Two is a physical or kinaesthetic learner who prefers using the body, hands and sense of touch. Learner Three is a verbal (linguistic} learner who prefers using words, both in speech and writing. [1]
This knowledge, which I was aware of but had no firm data to quantify this decision will help me with future lessons.
Whether labelled as learning styles or intelligences, none of these strengths are static or fixed. Students grow and improve in all types of learning as they mature. These approaches can be useful tools in a Learning Coach’s toolkit to add variety and support student learning at home.[2]
This quote is important to remember when using learning styles as aids, they are only guides not rules, I will be extending my awareness of learning styles to my other learners and their programmes.
Each learner has benefitted from this experience.
