Interpretation: Staccato Chords

This piece was composed to introduce the concept of staccato with an interval and a triad. The rest allows time to think and prepare for the next note. One hand uses the notes of the triad while the other hand maintains a static root note.

Demonstration Video


 
  1. Read the letter names out loud.

  2. Play a single chord from bar two and bar three without kicking the second and fourth fingers into the air or holding the fingers tense above the keys. Allow the fingers to relax and rest on the key surface.

  3. Sit at the piano or keyboard with the correct posture and hand position. (Link: Explanation video)

  4. Play the piece counting the rests and the notes.

  5. Remove any pauses by using a metronome at sixty beats per minute or one tick per crotchet.
