Fluency Level 1 Piano: D and C Strolling

A piece to give extra practice at note reading for the notes C5, D5, C3 and D3.

This piece has two beats in a bar and should be played at a walking pace.

Complete Practice Method

  1. Read the letter names out loud.

  2. Read the music and say out loud the finger numbers you would expect to use.

  3. Using the flash cards from the PDF provided lay out the letter names in order on the table or floor. Print the pages as many times as required to have the correct number of notes.

  4. Using the rhythm cards from the PDF provided lay out the rhythm for each bar and clap or play using a percussion instrument. A tambourine would be a good option for this.

  5. Sit at the piano or keyboard. (Link: Explanation video)

  6. Play the piece saying the finger numbers out loud.

  7. Play the piece saying the letter names out loud.

  8. Play complete focusing on each note as it sounds.
